SUBSTATION SAFETY TRAINING
A Substation Training Meeting was held at the Davis Substation in Southern Iowa EC territory to review safe working practices in substations.
Crews recently completed work at the Muldrow Substation that included increasing the size of the transformer and replacing three single-phase transformers with one three-phase transformer. Additionally, new Nova reclosers were installed.
A partial line re-route will avoid erosion problems experienced along the Fox River. The increased span length along with the addition of steel poles in this area will improve reliability and reduce maintenance expenses likely to occur with continued erosion.
The Jacksonville Substation rebuild converts an old substation previously used to supply a pipeline to a new substation that will provide backup power for the Cairo Substation.
Crews are installing steel, double circuit poles for the Spring Grove Double Circuit Project. This project will help provide a looped, 69 kV feed to the Spring Grove Substation in Access Energy's service territory.
NEW SWITCH STATION
Northeast Power takes pride in reliability. Currently, crews are working on completing a new switch station project in Spring Grove which will improve redundancy and reliability for our members.
Northeast Power is replacing the existing wooden substation structure at the Canton W2 Substation with steel structures to better promote reliability and safety.
NEW SWITCHES INSTALLED
Old, manually operated switches at the Canton Wye Switch Station have been replaced with new, motor-operated switches that can be operated remotely.
A series of switches have been installed on the Spring Grove double circuit line designed to improve sectionalizing.
BROWN INSULATOR REPLACEMENT
Northeast Power is actively working to replace outdated brown insulators within substations to a newer version.
